  • Joe D. Yoke, 81, of Hot Springs Village passed away on December 30, 2015 while at home with family. Joe was born September 3, 1934 in Newton, Kansas to the late Dewey Yoke and Gladys Minkler.

    Joe’s life long profession was Director of Baptist Association for Scouting; he was a member of the Rotary International Men’s Organization, Disaster Relief Team, Awana Teacher, and he faithfully ministered to men in jail.

    He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Yoke, his daughter Tami Dixon-LaRue and husband Matthew, 4 siblings Don, Ken, David and Cheryl, and 3 grandchildren: Eddy, Joe and Makayla Dixon.

    A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Balboa Baptist Church in Hot Springs Village.

    Evelyn and Tami my prayers and thoughts are with you both. I enjoyed working with Joe at the Scout office for 8 1/2 years I also remembers the Sunday School parties we had at your home. I think of you both every time I pass was that house.

    I express my regards to Joe's family. When I was a Cub Master, and then Scout Master in the First Capital District of the Bay Area (Galveston) Council, Joe's leadership as the Council Executive was truly inspiring. Through the dedicated leadership of Joe and his team of professionals and Scouters, I became an seasoned Scouter and will always cherish those memories. Thanks, Joe. You left a solid legacy behind.

    Evelyn...I am so sorry to hear of Joe's passing! I was his secretary at BSA when he retired back in the late 1990's. I was visiting Hot Springs yesterday and when I got on the road to drive back to Texas I mentioned to my daughter, "I wonder how Joe and Evelyn are." When I got home I Googled his name to see his funeral was the day before. You are in my prayers during your time of mourning. I am know what a wonderful Christian man Joe is and what a legacy he has left on this earth! May God be with you and grant you Peace!

    Joe and Evelyn were loving and faithful supporters of the Arkansas Baptist Boys Ranch in Harrison, AR. They sponsored many boys over the years and Joe would come stay with us on his annual trip to Camp Orr. He would take the boy that they sponsored out to eat and spend the evening with him. A few of our boys were blessed to have the opportunity to know him. Our prayers for the family of Joe and Evelyn from the staff and boys of the Arkansas Baptist Boys Ranch.
